Wardrobe handles are sold by centre-to-centre (CC) — the distance between the two screw holes, in millimetres. Get the CC right and any of the 89 designs in our wardrobe handle collection will fit; get it wrong and the shutter needs new holes. This guide explains the sizes, gives a rule of thumb for tall shutters, and shows what each size costs.
The standard sizes
Cabinet and wardrobe hardware follows a 32 mm grid, which is why the sizes look odd but repeat across every brand:
| CC size | Typical use | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| 96 mm | Small drawers, kitchen uppers | 96 mm handles |
| 128 mm | Standard drawers, vanity doors | 128 mm handles |
| 160 mm | Wide drawers, short wardrobe shutters | 160 mm handles |
| 192–224 mm | Kitchen base units, loft shutters | 192 mm, 224 mm |
| 256–320 mm | Wardrobe shutters up to 5 ft | 256 mm, 288 mm, 320 mm |
| 448–576 mm | Full-height wardrobe shutters (7 ft) | 448 mm, 450 mm, 576 mm |
| 896–1,000 mm | Statement long handles, sliding shutters | 896 mm, 960 mm |
A rule of thumb for tall shutters
For a vertical handle on a wardrobe shutter, a length between a third and a half of the shutter height looks proportionate: a 7 ft (2,100 mm) shutter takes 576–896 mm well, a 6 ft shutter takes 448–576 mm, and a loft shutter above the wardrobe takes 160–224 mm. If the wardrobe has a run of four or six shutters, keep every handle the same length and mount them at the same height, meeting at the shutter edges so pairs read as one line. A short handle on a tall shutter is the most common mistake we see in site photos — when in doubt, go one size up.
Horizontal or vertical?
Handles go vertical on doors and horizontal on drawers. Mount a wardrobe shutter handle so its centre sits around 900–1,000 mm from the floor; on a drawer, centre it on the front. For sliding shutters use a flat-profile handle (or a concealed handle) so the shutters can pass each other.

Frequently asked
How do I measure CC on an existing handle? Measure hole-centre to hole-centre on the back of the handle, or the distance between the two holes in the shutter.
Can I replace a 160 mm handle with a 192 mm one? Only with new holes; the old ones will need filling. Same-CC replacement is a ten-minute job.
What is a 'long handle'? Anything from 288 mm up — see the long handle collection.
